EDB

The Sri Lanka Export Development Board, usually known as EDB, is Sri Lanka's premier state organization for the promotion and development of exports of the country. It was established in 1979 under the Sri Lanka Export Development Act No. 40 and is the executive arm of the Export Development Council of Ministers, which is the policy-making body for the EDB. The Export Development Council of Ministers is headed by the H.E. the President of Sri Lanka.

What we do

As the National body responsible for development and promotion of Sri Lanka’s exports, the Sri Lanka Export Development Board plays a vital role in achieving the development objectives of the government. The Board implements a wide range of programmes and activities to enhance export earnings of the country including the provision of relevant know-how and assistance to all stakeholders of the export sector. The Board also facilitates the effective coordination of activities of all state and private organizations, industries and individuals who are involved in exporting our high quality products and services to the export market.

 

Export Performance Indicators

The significant impact the export sector could make on the development process of an economy like Sri Lanka is undisputed. In this context analyzing export data is vital for evaluating the export performance of the country and for making important decision in relation to export strategy formulation. The export performance indicators is the main statistical publication of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board which presents a comprehensive analysis of the performance of the country’s export sector .We are please to present the latest edition of this publication covering the period 2006 – 2015. The export performance indicators has been prepared on an annual basis for a long period of time, covering every segment of the export sector in Sri Lanka. We hope that this publication would be useful to policy makers, academics, the export community as well as potential exporters in evaluating and analyzing the performance and future trends of the export sector of Sri Lanka.

Most of the information contained in this publication has been based on the data derived from the Department of Customs and Central Bank of Sri Lanka, while some information has been sourced from international databases and other relevant publications.

Steps have been taken to improve the quality of this publication every year by including new additional features. With the globalization process in progress, access to up-to-data and information has become very important. In order to cater for this need, information on world demand and Sri Lanka's share in the world market has been included.
